About the Game
Black Future ’88 is a fast-paced 2D roguelike action shooter set in a stylish synth-punk version of 1988. After a nuclear catastrophe plunges the world into endless rain and darkness, you play as one of the last survivors and must climb a constantly changing procedural tower to confront Duncan, the architect responsible for the disaster. The catch: your heart is deteriorating, giving you only a limited amount of time to reach the top.
Combat combines shooting, melee attacks, dashing, upgrades, and frantic movement through deadly traps, homicidal AI, and powerful Wardens. With 5 playable characters, 5 distinct zones, 50 weapons, and 30 buffs and curses, each run can play very differently. The game also supports couch co-op, daily challenges with global leaderboards, and an original analog-synth soundtrack that completes its retro-futuristic atmosphere.
